The Facts About Minitor 2 (ii) Pagers
The basic information available for Minitor 2 pagers states that they are not synthesized and for their RF frequency they use crystals and for the decode frequency they use Perma-Code active filters.
Minitor 2 pagers have an option for a second channel, and they also offer programmable signaling, if it is a later model. They do not have the option of performing a PL squelch.
There are 8 noted tone code sets for the Minitor 2 pager. Set 1 has four options (with two being continuous and two being interrupt), Set 2 has three options (with one being interrupt and two being continuous), Set 3 has only two options (one interrupt and one continuous), Set 4 only has the interrupt option, Set 5 has three options (again, one interrupt and two continuous), Sets 6 and 7 have one interrupt and one continuous, and Set 8 has two interrupts.
The differences between the sets that have the same number of either continuous or interrupt is the tone code associated with the signal. The Minitor 2 pager has a mixture of available codes, depending on the Set that is being used. There are A, B and C codes, used either alone in a "long" formation or in combination, in a certain order, to page the correct device.
There are also jumper arrangements for the Minitor 2 pagers. These use established jumper codes that are relayed either IN or OUT to hit the correct device.
The Minitor IISV pager offers the added feature of Stored Voice. The particular devices SMT jumper is what determines the type of message that can be received and how long it is allowed to be.
Minitor IISV pagers have a different set of tone codes. They offer up to 9 sets of coding, with a similarity among most of the code sets to the standard model.
The second channel option for the Minitor II can be incorporated with little complications. In order to meet established specifications, the two channels of the pager should not be more than 3 MHz apart. The following additional parts will be needed to add the additional channel: crystals and another turning coil to properly peak the crystal. The crystal can be purchased anywhere; the turning coil will need to be purchased through Motorola. Once the necessary parts are purchased to add the additional channel to the Minitor 2 pager, the service manual provides easy to follow instructions on how to perform the upgrade.
